Roxanne Rhoads
The Haunting Historian
Art by Roxanne
I create in many mediums, lately most of my work is mixed media using acrylic paint, wood, clay, and resin.
Time to Say Goodbye
This woman is not ready to say goodbye when Death comes to collect her. She loved and was loved. She doesn't want to leave. But she is already dead and gone, her family has dropped flowers into her grave. Even as the mist gathers around her spirit to take her to the Otherside, she resists Death's embrace.
Santa Muerte

This art piece appeared in the Rest in Pieces: The Mysterious and The Macabre exhibition at Northville Art House in Northville, Michigan throughout October 2024.
The Struggle

Grief is love with nowhere to go when death takes your loved one to the other side.

This is a very personal piece for me because it depicts my struggle with grief after my mother passed away in 2021.

I was so consumed by grief I almost went into the ground with her, I felt "buried" for so long.

This skeleton is me struggling to come out of the depths of darkness and see the beauty around me. The struggle to fight the depression and the grief and enjoy all the wonderful things this world has to offer including spending time with my children and grandchildren. The butterflies represent my mother, her kindness and beauty. She would want me to live my life to the fullest.
I Remember You
This small wooden coffin features a skull in a heart overlooking a mossy area with mushrooms and butterflies. It symbolizes memories of my mother and my mother looking over her family from the Otherside.
